Mount Olympus - Blog 4

Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 4 - 2/23 This week I worked on finalizing my building for the goddess Demeter. I refined the block-out I had for her building and added details and made columns. I also UV'd the columns, the floor, and the wheat designs for the top of the building. Here is my reference sheet to get a better understanding of my idea for this building.  For the column, I got the idea from Jay to use helix. I flattened the helix and used it make a curve and then created a sweep mesh using the curved. I deleted the bottom have and bridged it to a cylinder to create the top half of the cylinder. The rest of the columns was mostly made by using extrusions and tweaking the vertex to create the shapes I wanted. I threw it into Marmoset Toolbag and added basic textures to make sure it rendered properly.        I did not spend too much time UV'ing the small details since the camera in our scene will be pretty far away from them. I refin...

Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 3 - 2//17      This week I focused on continuing to model the 4 buildings I was assigned in our scene. The gods/goddesses for my buildings are Athena, Artemis, Apollo, and Demeter.  I have created 2 block-outs for the gods Apollo and Demeter. My first block-out for Apollo I based of the original Apollo temple in Athens, Greece.      Unlike my block-out for Athena, it is not an exact replica of the original temple. I used pieces from my Athena block-out to create this design, My idea with the layout with this temple is to add variety and uniqueness among all the buildings in our scene. It would make the scene more interesting if the buildings are visibly different even from afar. I did the same for Demeter, I did not necessarily based his design off any temple specifically.      I used pieces from my two previous block-outs to create the designs from my last 2 buildings. I did...

Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 2 - 2//25           After speaking to Frank about our project in class, we have decided to completely change our layout and do our buildings on top of "floating rocks" instead of a giant mountain. This creates a smaller scope and would be a cooler idea for a city built for the gods. We want to connect the small islands together using bridges. I started by doing sketches on paper to get an overall idea of the concept. I then created two silhouette concept sketches of our idea to help get a base of exactly what we want.                 We want there to still be 13 buildings, one for each of the gods. We also still want the buildings to be on a mountain. I left out water ways and pathways since the focus was to get an overall form and base of the landscape. I also found some concept images more geared toward the floating island concept.   Since the concept fo...

Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 1 - 2/3/25 This week, our tasks as a group was to get everything ready to start creating our environment. We set up a Discord group, Syncsketch, and Trello. Our goals in our teams was to gather references and concepts together, create a layout and block-out, and assign tasks to begin doing for next week. The task assigned to me this week was to gather references and create the layout and design for our project. (See layout below). I do believe this layout will change throughout the semester as we model and fit things together and as we create new ideas.  I found some references for the entire project and some references for my own buildings I want to create. On Saturday night, we got together in a group to discuss the project and plan out what everyone was going to do. We decided that one modeler was going to start modeling the main building (Ayaka) while the other two (Jay and I) were going to start modeling 4 of the smaller buildings ...
