After speaking to Frank about our project in class, we have decided to completely change our layout and do our buildings on top of "floating rocks" instead of a giant mountain. This creates a smaller scope and would be a cooler idea for a city built for the gods. We want to connect the small islands together using bridges. I started by doing sketches on paper to get an overall idea of the concept. I then created two silhouette concept sketches of our idea to help get a base of exactly what we want.

We want there to still be 13 buildings, one for each of the gods. We also still want the buildings to be on a mountain. I left out water ways and pathways since the focus was to get an overall form and base of the landscape. I also found some concept images more geared toward the floating island concept.

Since the concept for the buildings have remained the same, I started doing block-outs of my buildings. Starting with Athena, I based my model on the Athens temple for Athena. I started with a quick sketch to get a better understanding of the building and to gather my references photos together.

I then started modeling the building, but creating the bottom stairs for a foundation and splitting into the 3 sections. The right, left and middle are separated and the walls were extruded from the top face of the floor. I cut out the middle and bridged the edges together to create the floor and ceiling for each pieces. The left section I extruded out to match the reference. I created the columns using a cylinder and duplicating it around the building. Then I used the same process for the small room on the right of the building.

Then I began modeling a building for the goddess Artemis using a reference I found from google images. I started with a cylinder and did a lot of extrusions while working my way up to create the overall shape. Then I separated the railing, bottom, and top to make it easier to model and to maintain good topology. I cut out holes for the railing poles and bridged it back together to create the poles. For the windows, I added edge loops where I wanted to windows to be and deleted some faces and fixed the topology. I deleted 4/5 of the cylinder, duplicated that one piece 5 times, and rotated it by 72 degree increments to recreate the building.

This week our plan is to finalize our overall concept and design for the project and to continue to model the buildings. I am going to refine my two buildings and add detail. I also want to have both of them UV'ed once modeling. As a group, we planned to hold off texturing until everything is modeled to maintain a theme among the 4 of us.
