Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith

Blog Post 13 - 5/4

This week, I focused on finishing my temple for Poseidon and Aphrodite. The temple for Poseidon is intended to replace one of my Artemis temple in our 'flythrough' so I tried to stick the the 'tower' shape of the temple. Most of the model were a bunch of pieces from my other temples. The bottom of the building was from my Demeter temple, the top, door, and windows were from my Apollo temple, and the shell detail was from my throne I made for Poseidon. I readjusted and changed the pieces to fit the new model.

The railing for this building was the only thing new that I modeled and has a simple design. I did not put as much detail into this building because it will only be seen from far away in our final render. I redid the UV's for the pieces since the pieces were changed to fit the new building design. I also color ID'ed certain parts of the building to make the texturing process easier.

For the textures, I used a simple marble texture and increased the tiling to match the scale of the building. The metal parts I used a gold smart material in Painter and a color selection mask to easily apply it. I added ambient occlusion and some grunge maps to make it look more realistic. The shells I textured separately because of the high poly bake. I didn't reposition them from how they were on the throne because I would have had to redo the low poly process.

The temple for Aphrodite is a newly modeled building. The roof I stole from my Demeter temple and the statue was one of my 3D scans I did last week. I stuck with very simple shapes and a simple design to be able to complete in the time we had left.

I based the main design off the original temple for Aphrodite in Greece. I tried to maintain an elegant and delicate appearance to match the theme that Aphrodite symbolizes. The columns are dainty and the building maintains elegance. The stuck with marble and gold for the textures and added some rose details, one of Aphrodite's symbols.

So far, we are pretty much finished with our scene. With four days left till submission, the only things to do now are a bit of tweaking and making the poster. I am extremely happy with how our project turned out and cannot wait to reveal the final product. Our team did amazing work.
