Blog Post 3 - 2//17

This week I focused on continuing to model the 4 buildings I was assigned in our scene. The gods/goddesses for my buildings are Athena, Artemis, Apollo, and Demeter.  I have created 2 block-outs for the gods Apollo and Demeter. My first block-out for Apollo I based of the original Apollo temple in Athens, Greece.

Unlike my block-out for Athena, it is not an exact replica of the original temple. I used pieces from my Athena block-out to create this design, My idea with the layout with this temple is to add variety and uniqueness among all the buildings in our scene. It would make the scene more interesting if the buildings are visibly different even from afar. I did the same for Demeter, I did not necessarily based his design off any temple specifically.

I used pieces from my two previous block-outs to create the designs from my last 2 buildings. I did not have specific concepts in mind but instead played around with the pieces until I found something I liked. The building for Demeter is a combination of my Apollo building and Artemis building. I added the tree as a center piece because Demeter is the god of nature. My idea for his building is to be filled will plants and wrapped in vines, almost like a Greek-themed greenhouse. I will not be using this tree in my final model, it is a place holder for now. I downloaded this tree from Turbosquid by xfrog.

Now that the block-outs are done for my buildings, I have started adding detail. The first building I began refining is my circular Artemis building. I have made it taller to match the size of the other buildings in our "godly" theme. I have also added detail and cleaned up the geometry. I will be continuing to do this to all my buildings in the following week.

I have also created reference sheets for my buildings. This will help me layout my ideas for the detail of the buildings while maintaining the theme of connecting them to specific gods. I have researched the gods I have for my buildings and am using sacred animals, symbols, plants, and more that represent each god. I have also begun planning out what textures I would like to use for my buildings.

This following week I will continue to create reference sheets for my last two gods (Athena and Artemis). I will also continue to refine and add details to my 4 buildings. Lastly, I hope to set up and Speed Tree and learn it to get started on planning out foliage for the terrain and buildings,
