Blog Post 1 - 2/3/25

This week, our tasks as a group was to get everything ready to start creating our environment. We set up a Discord group, Syncsketch, and Trello. Our goals in our teams was to gather references and concepts together, create a layout and block-out, and assign tasks to begin doing for next week. The task assigned to me this week was to gather references and create the layout and design for our project. (See layout below). I do believe this layout will change throughout the semester as we model and fit things together and as we create new ideas. 

I found some references for the entire project and some references for my own buildings I want to create. On Saturday night, we got together in a group to discuss the project and plan out what everyone was going to do. We decided that one modeler was going to start modeling the main building (Ayaka) while the other two (Jay and I) were going to start modeling 4 of the smaller buildings each. We planned to each create one set of modular pieces that we can use to create 4 buildings instead of modeling 4 buildings separately. We also decided that each of the smaller buildings would be designed to specific Greek mythological gods/goddesses. The gods/goddesses I chose were Apollo, Artemis, Athena, and Demeter. 



 

Our group was unfortunately unaware that we still need a "running edit" which would be a fly through of our block-out that Vitaliy made. This week our goal is to get that done to be able to present next week. Our goal is also to begin modeling our main building and start the smaller buildings. My task is to begin modeling my smaller buildings for the 4 gods I chose which I hope to have complete either at the end of this week or next week.

  Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 10 - 4/13       This week, I focused on completing the textures of my last two buildings, Demeter and Athena. I started with Demeter with the intention to not get too detailed because most of it will be covered in foliage. Demeter's building is very Earthy and filled with nature to go along with her domain of being the goddess of harvest. For Athena's building, I tried to match it to the original Temple of Athena in Greece.  Demeter      I used the same brick and gold textures that I have been using for all my buildings but created a different height map with different bricks. I wanted the bricks to be more sloppy and round. I also added moss on the building and seeping through the bricks along with some extra dirt textures.   Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 13 - 5/4 This week, I focused on finishing my temple for Poseidon and Aphrodite. The temple for Poseidon is intended to replace one of my Artemis temple in our 'flythrough' so I tried to stick the the 'tower' shape of the temple. Most of the model were a bunch of pieces from my other temples. The bottom of the building was from my Demeter temple, the top, door, and windows were from my Apollo temple, and the shell detail was from my throne I made for Poseidon. I readjusted and changed the pieces to fit the new model.   The railing for this building was the only thing new that I modeled and has a simple design. I did not put as much detail into this building because it will only be seen from far away in our final render. I redid the UV's for the pieces since the pieces were changed to fit the new building design.   Mount Olympus - Destiny Smith Blog Post 12 - 4/27   Throne for Zues      This week, I created a throne for Zues and 3D scanned Greek statues using white light scanning and prepared them for Unreal. I started with the same base I used for the Poseidon throne but made some minor changes to it. I added a pedestal to the bottom of the throne because Zues's throne is in the middle and he's viewed as 'the king' of the Olympic gods         I then brought the throne into ZBrush to sculpt some high poly details onto it. I only sculpted on specific parts I knew I wanted to maintain a low poly count. The rest of the details I planned to texture in Painter. I used Alpha stamps for the Greek patterns, reliefs, and the sun design on the sides. The top I drew on myself.
