This week, I finished my Apollo building and began learning Speedtree. I refined the building for Apollo and added details based on research I did for Apollo. Most of the building is based on the "temple of Apollo" in Greece. Here is my reference sheet I created for the god a few weeks ago. I also UV'ed the building and details.
` The building itself was made using basic extrusions and moving edges to create the corners where I wanted them. I created the roof by adding in edge loops using the insert edge loop tool on a flat plane, and moving the edges up to creating the arches. The building was created once and duplicated, then rotated to create the L-shape. The small middle building was also duplicated and sized down to fit in between them. The columns for that building were resized to fit. I also made the steps for the stair case taller to match the reference better.
The scale I modeled myself using the reference photo at the top. I created the base from a cylinder and extruded two of the faces out to create the arms. The bowls were made from spheres, cut in half, and extruded to give it thickness. I cut in three holes for the chains using the Multi-cut tool. The chains were made from multiple torus that were rotated and duplicated using the shift + D command. This was the easiest prop to model for the building and took less than 30 minutes. The Harp detail was made in Illustrator from a design I got from the Adobe Stock Assets website and made by Vista. I traced the design and used the Make 3D Object feature in Illustrator and exported as an obj file. Once in Maya, I used to retopologize tool to get better topology and a lower poly count.
I got the "Apollo Belvedere" statue from Sketchfab made by SMK – National Gallery of Denmark. I put the obj that was downloaded into ZBrush, ZRemeshed it, UV unwrapped it, projected the high poly onto the lower poly (with UVs) four times and exported the low and high poly objs with UVs. I placed the low poly models into my scene where I wanted them and created podiums for the statues to sit on.
The image of the man on the side of the building is from the original Apollo temple. The words translated are "Know Thy Self" in English. I used the image from the building and the quad draw tool to create the detail. I placed them on the sides on the building to fill up empty space.
On one last note, I began learning Speedtree. It is a completely new software to me so I am in the beginning stages and have so far just been getting used to the UI. Here on some notes I have done so far.
